The Mott Group is working to promote the use of pasture
and outdoor environments to raise animal products: meat, poultry, dairy
and eggs. In a pasture-based system, animals are free to go outdoors,
exercise, eat a varied diet and get plenty of fresh air and sunshine.
In contrast, most animal products are produced in a system where they
spend most or all of their lives inside a crowded building.
Dispersing
animals into pasture contributes in many ways to sustainable food
systems. Eating pastured animals products has many health benefits
compared to grain fed animal products. Waste products are dispersed on
the land where they contribute to soil fertility rather than run off as
pollution. Farmers have healthier and more rewarding lifestyles: they
are not exposed to unhealthy odors common in large scale confinement
operations Finally, the animals are eating more natural diets, usually
free of hormones and drugs, and able to move around freely outdoors.
